Costs and Payment Options

How we price our services

Fortunately, we participate with most of the major insurance plans, which cover virtually all our treatment services. (Please note that evaluations for the Courts are not considered treatment and are not typically covered.) If you have insurance, you are usually responsible only for a reasonable copayment, typically between ten and thirty dollars per visit, depending on your plan.

To make things easier, we accept not only cash and personal checks, but also bank and credit card payments. For those of you who do not have coverage or prefer to avoid the hassle of dealing with the insurance companies, we have set our fees to be competitive with other psychologists and providers in the area.

Billing structure

The initial visit is priced higher than normal ones because of its nature. Subsequently, we charge for a standard (now mandated by the new health care act) 45- or 55-minute “hour”. However, we have the flexibility of seeing you on occasion for a longer session, for which we bill proportionately.

Affordability

Although we do not have a sliding fee schedule tied to income, our fees are reasonable, and are lower than those of many other professionals. Moreover, psychotherapy is a sound investment in your overall health and well being. If you would like to see one of us, but are worried about the costs, please call to discuss your concerns before concluding you can’t afford our services.

Non-treatment services

Fees for non-treatment services, such as evaluations, testing, lengthy reports, or court-ordered matters, are higher because we are serving as experts. On the other hand, simple letters, telephone communications, exchange of information, or provision of records (with your permission) often are considered a professional courtesy and done at no additional charge.

Cancellation and late payment policies

Cancellation

When you schedule an appointment, you have reserved that time for yourself, and we will hold it for you unless you advise us otherwise. We will work with you should you need to reschedule or cancel, but we require a minimum of 24 hours notice, which allows us to offer your time to someone else who may be in need.

We do reserve the right to charge you the full hourly rate for appointments missed without adequate notice, as we cannot otherwise fill your hour nor can we bill insurance for services not actually performed. Of course, we understand that there are emergencies and situations that could not be foreseen or that are beyond your control, and we do not charge you for sessions missed under those circumstances.

Payment

Payment is expected at the time of services. If you are unable to pay at the time of your session, you must make prior arrangements. We reserve the right to terminate treatment if you fail to stay current with your payments.

We also reserve the right to use whatever means we must in order to be paid. These include the use of collection agencies or seeking a judgment from the local magistrate.
